English to Maltese Translator (Part-Time)

We are seeking a part-time translator to join our team. The candidate will focus on the translation and revision of content from English to Maltese.

Responsibilities

  • Translate texts in various domains especially life sciences (pharmaceutical).
  • Adhere to all the company guidelines and guidelines from the end client to ensure the best translation quality at all times.
  • Research on the subject being translated in specialised books, dictionaries, EU resources, regulatory agency publications, articles, online tutorials, etc.
  • Consult with subject matter experts in order to understand specialised concepts and translate them appropriately.
  • Use SDL Trados and the latest software tools to deliver work in the most efficient way.
  • Use quality check software (XBench) to ensure consistency and reduce the number of certain mistakes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (a B.A. in Maltese would be considered an asset).
  • Postgraduate certification in Translation and Terminology Studies.
  • Maltese is your native language.
  • Excellent writing skills in Maltese and up-to-date knowledge of the latest Maltese spelling rules and guidelines.
  • Very responsive with strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • A certificate in Maltese proofreading from the University of Malta is considered an asset (but not required).
  • Good command of MS Office suite especially MS Word.
  • Aptitude for learning new things and technologies fast.
  • Constantly meet strict deadlines set by the Project Manager and ability to work under pressure.
  • Meticulous attention to detail where not even a double space goes unnoticed.
  • Some experience with CAT tools (especially SDL Trados) would be considered an asset.
  • Previous professional translation experience is not required.
  • Ability to commit at least 10 hours of work per week.
  • Candidates that can dedicate some hours during business hours (9 am – 5.30 pm) would be preferred.
  • Willing to undertake assignments during the weekend.
